They were good. Sometimes I thought I already knew what I was doing but having James look over our shoulders exposed a lot of weak areas that we weren't even aware of.

Yes. I have been working with TDD when extending and debugging existing code.
Challenges to applying:
Existing code is not testable. I expect that using TDD from the start drives code to be more testable.
