• Course: TDD for Embedded C++
  • Date entered: 2021-07-15 20:21:24 UTC
  • Course rating: Excellent
  • Most useful learnings: probably one of the most useful was attempting to keep tests off-target as much as possible
  • Concepts v exercises: Good balance
  • Presentation v discussion: Too much discussion
  • Course improvements: i would say that i very much enjoyed the class and appreciated the hands on exercises. however, i do think that keeping to the scheduled time each day would be more beneficial to those of us who can barely afford the extra time out of working to take the class. instead of going over, i would be okay with less discussion and/or going over people's responses and questions - maybe answer questions in an email later
  • Exercise rating: Very Good
  • Exercise improvements: though it is great that the exercises are simple to help teach the concepts, something a bit more real world might help more - more examples that deal with hardware since this class is specific to embedded engineers - would also appreciate being able to work with the C++ examples in class the whole time
  • Instructor comments: James does a great job explaining the concepts and breaking things down in an easy to understand manner.
  • Better prepared: Much better
  • Start tomorrow: i do still need to have more practice with setting up the test environment and then figuring out how to connect it with my actual code
  • Challenges to applying: our code is very tightly coupled to the hardware, there is probably more that can be tested w/out hardware than i think there is, but there are still a lot of hardware dependencies - such as controlling a camera or a motor or servo, etc
  • Other comments: the gathertown experience was fun. i did appreciate the private spaces and james did a good job of responding to questions and going around to groups to check on them but it would be nice if there was a way to talk to the whole group through a setting vs having to go to the stage or walk over to the tiki bar other than the usual technical difficulties, i did think james presenting was effective and easy to listen to/follow
