  • Message: Hello! I'm extremely interested in attending one of your online embedded TDD courses. Are the dates and times still accurate? I see that the course on May 31 to June 2, 2016 is the only one with availability. That course would be ideal for me. If the timing information is still correct, I'd love to sign up some time tomorrow after I bounce the idea off of my higher-ups to make sure I can take the time to attend. A bit about me: I'm just starting my third year in the software world as a self-taught/self-teaching embedded developer (I studied piano and physics in college). Perhaps a year and a half ago I was referred to "the book", Test Driven Development for Embedded C, by an experience colleague in Santa Barbara. I spent a good amount of time digesting the book, then took a lengthy foray into Ruby to learn object-oriented design in a more idiomatic setting (on my own time; my work is always C), and just recently dove back into embedded TDD. At my previous job I didn't have much freedom in development style or much experience, so I had little opportunity to employ TDD. I recently relocated - this job fell in my lap - to a company that allows significantly more freedom to code cleanly, so I've been slowly refactoring parts of the code base and capturing side projects under unit tests. In fact, I have some test-driven code that is shipping tomorrow! I'm not yet sure how the rest of the devs in the office (4 others) will take to TDD, but the boss has been receptive. He's young yet and was impressed with the flexibility of some of the solutions that I've rigged up, so I feel that there's hope. Still, code must often ship quickly and they've historically been under much pressure, so it'll take some convincing. If nothing else, this is a skill that I'm intent on honing on my own time. If anything is on my five-year life plan, this is it. I hope that's something like what you're looking to hear.
